Rebranding of a voucher scheme that helps local schools teach and promote horticulture.
Since being rebranded, the scheme now reaches out to over 220 (from 70) local schools covering 3 counties, benefiting over 80,000 children and giving direct communication to their parents. The focus point of the scheme is the 2 annual ‘vouchers for schools’ appeal, one in the spring and one at Christmas. A school voucher is given for every £10 spent that the school can later spend on gardening accessories, tools, seeds and/or plants at the Garden Centre for their school. The scheme forms a mutually beneficial partnership that promotes the message that horticulture can play a significant part in helping with awareness on healthy eating, our environment and the natural world or simply as a tool to get children outside and active.
The scheme needed to be more recognisable and stand out from the bottom of a school bag. Therefore, the rebrand adopted a much more colourful, fun feel with a new logo incorporating a sunflower making it instantly recognisable and appealing to children. An information pack is sent out to the schools at the beginning of each scheme containing posters for the school and each child is given a leaflet to take home to their parents. Posters and leaflets are also displayed in store. Each year the theme is slightly adapted to keep a fresh feel, by changing the colour, updating the photos (taken at workshops held at the Garden Centre) and updating the child like objects used on the poster.
The scheme has since gone on to win the 2011 Garden Retail 'Best Community Involvement' Award.
